This is a very happy time for our EMC Chapter here in the Detroit metropolitan area, since we will be able to host our favorite IEEE event, in our favorite town and offer all of our EMC friends from around the world a taste of Detroit’s great midwestern hospitality. From putting the world on wheels to the “Motown” sound, Detroit has been a constant positive force for the building of the American culture. Metro Detroit has always been a great place to work, live and visit. The region is currently undergoing a renaissance with new developments and attractions. Downtown Detroit’s development boom is unparalleled in the country. $nfBvf

As a destination, Detroit has something for everyone from techno music lovers and gear heads to African-American history buffs. Did you know that Detroit was one of the final stops on the Underground Railroad, and that one of its outlying airports hosts the Yankee Air Force? Patrons of the arts like Detroit too. Readers of AmericanStyle magazine recently ranked Detroit one of the country’s top 25 arts destinations. 4$?wD <

The Detroit 2008 Symposium Committee is working to bring you an EMC Symposium experience that is both familiar and novel. The technical program, the centerpiece of the symposium, is expected to be rich with papers covering areas of EMC design, mitigation, and metrology. The workshops this year will offer Monday and Friday sessions, including new workshops in more diverse areas as we address our Symposium theme of “EMC in Motion”. As you might expect from a Detroit-based Symposium, automotive and portable electronics EMC are a big part of our plans. We also look forward to significant contributions from the Aerospace, Military, Commercial and Wireless segments of our industry, as they all reflect on how much electronics in general has adapted to our increasingly mobile society with the knowledge that we all take our electronics into electromagnetically “challenging” environments. +i`Q 7+d

Special Sessions will focus on topics that may not have had a significant voice in previous venues. Workshops and Demonstrations of EMC fundamentals, principles and methodologies allow the presenters to interact with the audience in a personal manner.
