Due to its low profile, the microstrip antenna has found many applications x[BA <UNO  
in personal communication systems. And, owing to the miniaturization of !>+m46A  
the communication equipments, the design for reducing the size of the <~svy)Cz  
microstrip antenna has received much attention. One of the effective ways D$D;'Kij  
to reduce the patch size of the microstrip antenna is to introduce a shorting %+;amRb  
pin at the edge of the patch [l]. Based on this technique, several novel =BV_?  
designs of the compact microstrip antennas are described in this article. The 0&Iu+hv  
antenna size can be reduced to less than 50% of the size of a conventional 7E?60^Tve  
microstrip antenna. By incorporating the meandering of the patch, the 3.=o}!  
electrical length of the patch can be further increased [2]. Characteristics of $%ztP Ta
