Due to its low profile, the microstrip antenna has found many applications wt7.oKbW  
in personal communication systems. And, owing to the miniaturization of hBCR]=']  
the communication equipments, the design for reducing the size of the &?$\Y,{  
microstrip antenna has received much attention. One of the effective ways y-`I) w%  
to reduce the patch size of the microstrip antenna is to introduce a shorting dV$!JTsd  
pin at the edge of the patch [l]. Based on this technique, several novel uaQ&&5%%J  
designs of the compact microstrip antennas are described in this article. The NFoZ4R1gy  
antenna size can be reduced to less than 50% of the size of a conventional ~{ .,8jE  
microstrip antenna. By incorporating the meandering of the patch, the -"Gl 4)  
electrical length of the patch can be further increased [2]. Characteristics of *t=i
