In this paper, a 2-D Finite Element Time Domain vQXF$/S  
(FETD) model is presented for analyzing sub nanosecond /:A239=+?  
plasma closing switches in gases, based on the Matlab  gHUW1E  
Partial Differential Equation (PDE) toolbox. We will 4ybOK~z  
present the basic features of the model, as well as the @:hWahMy  
results of validation studies on simple problems such as uq:'`o-1  
switch closure in an ideal, infinite, conically symmetric n$j B"1  
test volume. The physical model is then modified to ~O./A-l  
simulate a test cell that had been previously used to _kOuD}_|
 
collect experimental data. The dynamic channel current Jp)PKS ![  
and its rate of the switch were evaluated based on the u(r T2  
numerical model for different gases in different pressure A+Je?3/.  
regimes. The dynamics of the switch closure are greatly 2mj>,kS?c  
affected by the gas species and pressure used for tMf5TiWu@
