In this paper, a 2-D Finite Element Time Domain !L95^g  
(FETD) model is presented for analyzing sub nanosecond {Ixg2=E\  
plasma closing switches in gases, based on the Matlab h

Partial Differential Equation (PDE) toolbox. We will 5

present the basic features of the model, as well as the E{2Eoj;gq  
results of validation studies on simple problems such as 1U,1)<z~u  
switch closure in an ideal, infinite, conically symmetric nA~E "*  
test volume. The physical model is then modified to s<]&*e&}?  
simulate a test cell that had been previously used to oQL59XOT4  
collect experimental data. The dynamic channel current XhPe]P  
and its rate of the switch were evaluated based on the bTSL<"(]N  
numerical model for different gases in different pressure C8L'si  
regimes. The dynamics of the switch closure are greatly g5q$A9.Jl  
affected by the gas species and pressure used for wWXD\{Hk
