Abstract-The conical monopole antenna with a section of continuous  }fp-5  
resistive loading is considered as a radiator for temporally C6rg<tCH  
short, broad-bandwidth pulses. The geometrical details of the s-dLZ.9F  
coaxial feed and the resistive loading are varied to “optimize” J\e+}{  
this structure for pulse radiation. Compared with the perfectly yf&7P;A  
conducting cone, the optimized resistive cone radiates a better qzb<J=F
AU  
reproduction of the pulse excitation with no loss in amplitude,
R8.CC1Ix  
and has internal reflections that are much smaller in amplitude. Jx'i2&hGN  
Graphical displays of the field surrounding the antenna are used 0uBl>A7qhn  
to give insight into the physical processes for transient radiation +V&{*f)  
from this antenna. Experimental models were constructed to {Zp\^/  
verify the optimization and demonstrate the practicality of the %YOndIS:
