In order to meet the requirement for mobile or personal communication Pg*ZQE[ME8  
systems, microstrip antennas with reduced size and broadband operation are rb`C:#j{J  
of particular interest. Among various feeding mechanisms, the compact xQWZk`6~L  
broadband microstrip antennas directly matched to a 50Q microstrip line is (Pvch!  
also of importance, for its usefulness in integration with microwave _F,@mQ$!  
integrated circuits. For this purpose, we present in this article several 5#QB&A>  
related designs of microstrip antennas to broaden the operating bandwidth 4V43(G  
and reduce the overall size of the antenna. These compact broadband l~F,i n.  
designs are achieved using a chip-resistor loading [ 1-31, which effectively 0fi+tc30  
lowers the resonant frequency of the microstrip antenna, improves the !. q*bY  
antenna bandwidth. and eases the stringent tolerance of the impedance s7a\L=#p(  
matching problem. In this study, details of the antenna designs using the DX4 95<6*
