The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method has been applied to a wide range of electromagnetic problems, with increasing interest in antenna applications. Results have been reported for antenna impedance and for radiation patterns for a variety of antenna geometries. In this paper, the calculation of absolute gain and radiation efficiency using FDTD will be discussed. The approach described utilizes pulsed excitation, so that wide-band results are available from a single FDTD computation.
