Directed Energy Directorate (AFRL/DE) has, q=Zr>I;(Ks  
over the last several years, conducted `?(Bt|<>  
experiments on the magnetic pressure driven pv!oz2w1  
implosion of various metal shells (solid liners). SlLw{Yb7\.  
More recently, AFRL/DE has reported on -Ng'<7  
experiments that successfully imploded ]q5`YB%_  
cylindrical aluminum liners suitable for #EGA#SKo
q  
compressing field reversed configurations 3voT^o  
(FRC’s) to magnetized target fusion (MTF) q"qo.TPh|$  
conditions (1). We have recently done Mach2 (2) [P4$Khu$  
MHD simulations of the resistive heating of such qSCv )S(  
imploding liners as a function of their thickness. 4674SzL  
This was to gain insight on diffusion time effects y&[y=0!  
that conceivably could lead to melt waves for 6M.;@t,Y  
thicker liners, driven with higher currents. For {Rq1HH  
example, scaling the thickness of a liner for v
a|*c22;|  
successful experiment parameters with the |C%Pjl^YkV  
implosion discharge energy might be expected to ~tFqb<n  
preserve the timing of liner liquification (or loss 3oZ=k]\  
of material strength). However, diffusion time 1k%k`[VC  
effects can complicate this. Our simulations P>Euq'ajX  
indicate such effects, sometimes referred to as %6%<?jZ  
melt waves, for increasing the discharge energy LK9g0_  
and liner thickness a factor of 4, with the same 9i5,2~  
10 microsecond current risetime, relative to 8e~|.wOL  
experimentally successful implosion parameters. w2O!M!1
