Directed Energy Directorate (AFRL/DE) has, *l2`- gbE  
over the last several years, conducted Nk|cU;?+  
experiments on the magnetic pressure driven j(;^XO Y#  
implosion of various metal shells (solid liners). wP!X)p\  
More recently, AFRL/DE has reported on p3Sh%=HE'  
experiments that successfully imploded 34@[ZKJ5  
cylindrical aluminum liners suitable for ]<;,HGO  
compressing field reversed configurations K\Ea\b[  
(FRC’s) to magnetized target fusion (MTF) RK3yq$  
conditions (1). We have recently done Mach2 (2) z/@_?01T=  
MHD simulations of the resistive heating of such JJ?{V:  
imploding liners as a function of their thickness. }^ rxsx`  
This was to gain insight on diffusion time effects _P>YG<*"kQ  
that conceivably could lead to melt waves for y.rN(  
thicker liners, driven with higher currents. For ([>ecS@eO  
example, scaling the thickness of a liner for uO?+vYAN  
successful experiment parameters with the )!T~l(g  
implosion discharge energy might be expected to A

preserve the timing of liner liquification (or loss J2UQq7-y  
of material strength). However, diffusion time *rxr:y#Ve  
effects can complicate this. Our simulations U{U"%XdO  
indicate such effects, sometimes referred to as ^Q6J$"Tj  
melt waves, for increasing the discharge energy NYm"I`5w  
and liner thickness a factor of 4, with the same ZN[<=w&(cB  
10 microsecond current risetime, relative to S@qp_!
