Abstract: A helical antenna, consisting of a ms?

winding over a spherical surface, is proposed and )9*WmFc+#  
investigated, both theoretically and $I.'7 &h;  
experimentally. The winding is such that a Dbgw)n*2  
constant spacing between turns is maintained. It <rU(zm  
is fed coaxially, with the inner conductor forming 0wx`y$~R  
the helical winding and the outer conductor bV"0}|A~K  
becoming the ground plane. Radiation >7n(*M  
characteristics of the proposed spherical helix are \ZC7vM"h  
calculated, using the method of moments, and 0@ -LV:jU  
compared with the measured results. The results 7"gy\_M  
of this investigation indicate that radiation ^71sIf;+
 
properties of the spherical helix are markedly @'S-nn,sO  
different from those of the conventional _jtBU  
cylindrical helix. Of particular interest is that, *StJ5c_kg2  
over a certain bandwidth, the proposed helix is j
