This article reviews the current status of aperture coupled microstrip antennas. Since its introduction in 1985 [1], the v:d9o.h

throughout the world. We begin with some historical notes about the early development of this antenna, and discuss Q_}/ Pn$1  
its main features relative to other types of microstrip antenna feeding methods. We then discuss the basic operating t=dO  
principles of the aperture coupled antenna, followed by a summary of the extensive development that this antenna L0&S0HG
