Possessing outstanding miniaturisation potentialities and ability to produce strong electromagnetic resonance, split-ring resonators (SRRs) are used to design an electrically small antenna (ESA). Here, a triple-band ESA is constructed by integrating three different sized in-plane SRRs. The resonant frequencies of these SRRs are tuned to be nearly equal. Shifting these SRRs to be non-concentric, as a way to decrease the mutual interaction between them, a broadband ESA can be achieved by simply adding up the three SRRs’ respective impedance bandwidth. Numerical and experimental results for the ESA of 0.129λ0 × 0.129λ0 are presented. The relative bandwidth of the ESA fabricated in experiment is 7.21%, a number approximately three times than that of the usual single SRR-based ESA.
